Poppy Makes a Splash
“POPPY” MAKES A SPLASH—A partnership between WBKO TV in Bowling Green and prominent Bowling Green attorney Flora Templeton Stuart brought Poppy, a raccoon mascot program for kids, to the Allen County Primary Center and The CORE Tuesday to recognize the Learn to Swim program for a Poppy Leadership Award. The swimming program, made possible by a partnership between The CORE, the Allen Fiscal Court and The Citizen-Times, teaches all ACPC second graders to swim for free, regardless of CORE membership, as a means of preventing future drownings. Stuart founded the Poppy program six years ago, naming it for her grandfather, Goyne “Poppy” Talmage, who, she said, served the community selflessly and encourages others to serve. The Poppy program serves a variety of regional charitable causes. Above, joined by Stuart, Poppy and ACPC students Tucker Brewington and Georgie Tabor, WBKO meteorologist Matt Stephens interviews CORE Director of Swim Lessons Bonnie Meador. The segment is scheduled to air on WBKO’s “AM Kentucky” this Friday, March 18. The Poppy program will also award a school with a $2,000 check to help sponsor further leadership programs.
