Jury Awards $18 Million Against Local Hospital

A jury has awarded $18 million against TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow for a negligent delivery. This trial stems back to a delivery that occurred in 2007 when a child was born with a brain injury and “other persistent health issues.” The lawsuit alleged that the hospital improperly monitored the child’s mother after administering the drug Pitocin to induce labor. The child’s mother sued on his behalf and received $18,270,052.37 for medical, hospital, and prescription expenses as well as future medical needs, pain and suffering, and future impairment of earning capacity. The child was diagnosed with spastic quadriplegia after suffering severe brain injury due to no oxygen.
