Car Accident Fatalities Down in Kentucky
In the fall of this year, drivers in the State of Kentucky received good news. As of the end of October, Kentucky was on track to record its lowest-ever number of driving fatalities for the year. The total fatality number as of October 31 was 525, which was just under the 539 reported for that date in 2013. Perhaps more important, for the first time, there have been less than 600 roadway fatalities this year.
This figure is a vast improvement as compared to years such as 2004, when 964 driving deaths were recorded, and 2005, when 985 driving deaths occurred. Despite the unseasonably cold November weather that has caused numerous crashes throughout Kentucky, officials remain hopeful that fatalities will come under 600 by the end of next month. The Kentucky State Police are attributing factors such as road checks, directed patrols, traffic volume analysis, widened interstates and highways and an increased focus on preventing drunk driving to the low number of fatalities.
Despite increasingly safe Kentucky roadways, serious and fatal accidents will continue to occur.
